Instructions
Follow these easy steps to create your delicious Baked French Onion Meatballs:
1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
2. Cook the onions: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the chopped onions until they are soft and caramelized, about 10 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute. Set aside to cool.
3. Mix the meatball ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, breadcrumbs, cooled onion and garlic mixture, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix until well combined.
4. Shape the meatballs: Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 to 1.5 inches in diameter. Place them evenly on the prepared baking sheet.
5. Bake the meatballs: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
6. Prepare the broth: While the meatballs bake, heat the beef broth in a small pot on medium heat.
7. Add the cheese: Once the meatballs are done, carefully remove them from the oven and pour the hot beef broth over them. Top with shredded Swiss cheese.
8. Melt the cheese: Return the meatballs to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
9. Garnish and serve: Remove the meatballs from the oven, garnish with chopped fresh parsley, and serve warm.
